HBSW, RSW | MSW Candidate

Hi, I’m Taylyn, and I’m currently working on my Master’s in Social Work focusing on clinical counselling at Lakehead University. I grew up in Southern Ontario and have always had a passion for helping others. My journey into the field began with an undergraduate degree in Sociology, followed by a college program at Fleming College in Mental Health, Addictions, and Social Service Work. After that, I completed the 1-year HBSW program at Lakehead before pursuing my Master's. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a variety of populations, including those struggling with addiction, child welfare, and case management.

Through my studies and hands-on experience, I’ve developed expertise in approaches like cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and mindfulness techniques. I also bring a deep sense of empathy to my work, having faced my own challenges along the way. I’m committed to creating a safe, client-centered space for healing, helping others build resilience, and empowering them to make lasting changes.

Outside of work, I’m a proud handler of a St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog (Yuki), and I have a deep love for dogs. I hope to one day have my own therapy-assisted dog to integrate into my clinical practice, as I truly believe in the power of animals to support emotional healing. Ultimately, my goal is to help clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to thrive.
