HBSW, RSW | MSW Candidate
Hello! My name is Joelle (she/her). I am delighted to be joining Dorset Pier Mental Health as a Clinical Psychotherapy Associate and I am looking forward to working with individuals of all ages. I was born and raised in Quebec, and lived in Alberta for many years. In 2021, I moved to Thunder Bay and have been here since. I am a white, queer, francophone ciswoman of settler origin, and I am grateful to live and practice on the traditional lands and lakes of Fort William First Nation, signatory to the Robinson-Superior treaty of 1850.
I have a background in Neuroscience and Anthropology from the University of Guelph, and appreciate the neurological and social aspects of mental health and wellness. I graduated from the HBSW program at Lakehead University, where I am also currently working on my MSW and completing academic research on the topic of substance use and substance use disorder. I am forever learning, and I am looking forward to learning just as much as I can share.
I have worked with youth, adults, and families seeking support in a variety of areas including anxiety, depression, and substance use. With a focus on DBT and CBT methods, I am dedicated to approaching situations through a trauma-informed lens and maintaining a client-centred and strength-based approach. My lived experience with depression, anxiety, and OCD has opened me to the struggle of finding support that matches each of our individual needs when we need it most. I am looking forward to working with you to identify your unique goals and needs, and am hoping that, together, we can bring about the change that you are looking for in your life.
When I am not working, you can most often find me baking or hiking and camping in the wilderness.
